Get ready for the all new Manila FAME, which is set to open on April 25 and will run until April 27 at the World Trade Center.
Its 69th edition puts the spotlight on "Heritage Reimagined." While not entirely groundbreaking, the Department of Trade and Industry Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (DTI-CITEM)'s Executive Director Pauline Suaco-Juan urges Filipinos to reinforce their passion and love for all things local.
"The recent nostalgia over past trends and the revival or reinvention of iconic design pieces are going back in style," Pauline says. "It is through this resurgence of design sensibilities that we will redefine and showcase our heritage of Philippine design. Our goal is to highlight the most iconic styles and elements of past products and reintroduce them through modern interpretations."
With this goal in mind, Pauline introduces the Design Commune, a local group of creatives in the realm of design, fashion, editorial, and entrepreneurial communities. The said collective will be led by creative director Vince Uy, who is joined by PJ Arañador and Maco Custodio, for the home and fashion sectors of the Artisans Village; André Chang for fashion; Nix Alañon for furniture and lighting, and; Stanley Ruiz for home and lighting.

Under the Design Commune, the team is set to feature "products from 115 Philippine brands and manufacturers that have undergone product development and curation to meet the aesthetics and demands of the international market."
Additionally, Manila FAME seeks to conquer the online world through Fashion E-Tailer, where they would highlight online stores locally established. Expect to see a slew of modern commercial brands that young fashion enthusiasts will love. Nomadic Tendencies, Quiddity Leather Goods, AVA Online Group Inc., HaloHalo, Simple Sentiments PH, Baúl, Factory, Stride Collective, Toqa Fashion Studio, Tropik Beatnik, Viajecito, Annie and Lori, Anika, Randolf, Basic Movement, Coral Swimwear, Neon Island, Proudrace, and R-U-A will join the trade show this April.

Manila FAME also aims to cultivate young creatives, and with CREATE Lab, budding creatives will have the chance to learn first hand from the industry's experts. "From creating a personal logo, using stop-motion, to creative business processes, there is a lot of valuable things to learn from the CREATE Lab."
Great Women Project
Women are also celebrated under Manila FAME. The Gender Responsive Economic Actions for the Transformation of Women (GREAT) Women Project "will feature arts and crafts from women entrepreneurs that have undergone product development workshops to enhance their business management competencies, skills, or innovate existing products." They can also expand markets through Manila FAME.

All the way from Antique, Marawi, Zamboanga, and Albay, local manufacturers will get a chance to present, demonstrate, and highlight their province's raw materials and production techniques. "Live demonstrations of how these materials are crafted and fashioned into end products will also further elevate the event."
